The HiRise 2 is a great refinement to an incredible product (Review)

As you may recall, last month I had the pleasure of reviewing the excellent HiRise Deluxe made by TwelveSouth. Two of my favourite features were it’s design, and compatibility, both with devices and cases. Following the success of the HiRise Deluxe, TwelveSouth has released the sequel to one of their most popular accessories; the HiRise 2.

When I received the box in the mail, I could tell just by the packaging that the HiRise 2 had improved. Not only was the new design of the product prominently featured on the front, but the box was significantly shorter. Opening it up, the presentation is very similar to that of the HiRise Deluxe. Seeing the dock, I was surprised to see how much smaller the HiRise 2 was. According to TwelveSouth’s website, it’s about 30% smaller than the HiRise Deluxe. Removing out of the box, I was also surprised to feel just how much heaver it is. By weighing the two, I discovered that it is almost twice the weight of it’s predecessor.

The HiRise 2 doesn’t bring any groundbreaking new features to the table. Rather, it improves on an already solid product. The design has been changed to match the look of Apple’s rounded iPhones (6, 6S, 7.) It looks really good, with it being only a little bit thicker than the iPhone 7. While I found the HiRise Deluxe to match more of the design style of the base of the iMac, the HiRise 2 looks more at home with iOS devices.

The most known feature of the HiRise; compatibility, is still present in the successor. You can just the back to make room for different sized cases, and there are different cable clips to enable charging for even the most heavy-duty cases. Interestingly, there are now separate cable clips for the Lightning and Micro-USB cords. Speaking of cords, the HiRise 2 Deluxe also includes both a Lightning and Micro-USB cord in the box, so you can quickly set up and play. It even matches the color of the dock. If you don’t buy the HiRise 2 Deluxe, you’ll need to supply the cords yourself. Besides that and an additional color option, there isn’t any differences between the HiRise 2 and the HiRise 2 Deluxe.

If there’s one thing I don’t like about the HiRise 2, it’s the lack of colors. While the HiRise Deluxe came in matching colors to compliment the beautiful finish on your iOS Device, such as gold, rose gold etc., the HiRise 2 only comes in Silver and Technical Black, with the HiRise 2 Deluxe also available in Matte White.

Overall, the HiRise 2 is a great product. It doesn’t bring any new features that the previous HiRise couldn’t do, however, it refines the product itself, making it an even more incredible product. So incredible, in fact, that we’re giving away one! Be sure to check out this page to find out more of winning one yourself!
