Apple Starts Free Battery Replacement Program For Select MacBook Pro Models

If you have a 13-inch MacBook Pro without Touch Bar manufactured between October 2016 and October 2017, then you might want to read this. Apple has started a new battery replacement program targeted towards the said models of MacBook.

According to the company MacBook Pros manufactured during this timeframe may experience component failure that can cause the battery to swell. If this happens Apple will replace the battery for free. Apple has also set up a webpage that allows users to enter their MacBook Pro’s serial number to see if their particular device is eligible for this program.

While Apple has not specified the specific component that is causing the issue, the company notes it is not a safety issue.

The issue that is causing the batteries to swell only affects non-Touch Bar 13-inch MacBook Pros released between October 2016 – October 2017 time period, any devices manufactured before or after this time are not affected. Also, MacBook Pros with Touch Bar, older MacBook Pros and other MacBooks models are also not affected.

If your MacBook Pro is covered in this program and you have to get the battery replaced, you can take it to your nearest Apple Store or an Apple Authorized Service Provider. But first make sure your device is eligible by going to this page and entering the serial number. (ArsTechnica)
