Apple to kill iPad Air lineup in favor of 9.7-inch iPad Pro

Apple is holding a media event next month, which will reportedly be held on 15th March. So far we know that a new iPhone 5se, a new 9.7-inch iPad and perhaps an updated Apple Watch will be announced at the event. Now new information has surfaced about the next mid size iPad, with 9to5Mac claiming that the new model will be part of the iPad Pro lineup instead of the current iPad Air lineup. This means it will essentially be a smaller version of the iPad Pro, which has a screen size of 12.9-inches. What makes this report even more interesting is the fact that it claims the new 9.7-inch iPad Pro will not only have the same features as the larger iPad, but will also feature similar specifications.

The new smaller ‘iPad Pro’ is said to feature an A9X processor, 4GB RAM, quad stereo headphones, support for Apple Pencil, a Smart Connector to connect accessories like a keyboard case and more. This also means that Apple will introduce iPad Pro accessories including the Apple Pencil and the Smart Keyboard Cover for the smaller model. The device is also going to come in same storage capacity options as the current iPad Pro, that is available in 32GB and 128GB variants.

A 9.7-inch iPad Pro can help in turning things around for Apple, which must have noticed the slowing sales of iPads and the overall tablet industry. A ‘Pro’ model of the mid-sized iPad, that has specifications and features of the iPad Pro will certainly make it a hit among those who want a device that has powerful capabilities of the iPad Pro but features a more portable form factor.
