UTM app Install Windows on iPad

Have you ever dreamed to install Windows on iPad? Or perhaps install Android on iPhone? If yes, then you are going to love this new UTM app.

A new AltStore app called UTM has been released. It allows users to run any operating system on their iPhone or iPad. With UTM app you can run a variety of desktop operating systems. You can install Windows on iPad, Linux and more operating systems natively on your device. You can even run Android on your iOS device. The OS runs in a virtual environment inside an app.

UTM is a QEMU port with JIT acceleration that is capable of emulating any processor on iOS devices. This includes over 30 processors by QEMU including ARM64, x86_64 and RISC-V.

What makes UTM appealing is the fact that it does not require jailbreak to work and is supported on all iOS versions after iOS 11. The app works on iOS 13 and iPadOS 13 without requiring jailbreak.

UTM is free to use and open source. User can easily configure and customize their Virtual Machine in a native UI. Other features include a console mode that lets you run headless server VMs in native terminal, directory sharing, clipboard and port forwarding.

UTM supports a wide range of input devices including external keyboards, touchpads, Apple Pencil and controllers. Apple’s new Magic Keyboard with trackpad is also supported.

As we said earlier UTM can be installed on both jailbroken and non-jailbroken devices through AltStore. The best thing about this app is that it works on both versions of operating systems in the same way as no features are lost when it is running on stock iOS.

After installing AltStore on your iOS device, you can add UTM’s repository to AltStore. After doing so UTM becomes available for download.

Step 7: If you are running AltStore beta then you can head to the Browse section and add ‘https://alt.getutm.app’ to your sources. If you are not on AltStore beta, then you can download the latest UTM App IPA from here and then sideload it to your AltStore app.

Step 8: After downloading UTM simply run it from the home screen.

Instructions on how to download and install unsigned IPA are also available on the official website. After UTM is up and running on your iOS device you can use it to install Windows on iPad.

While UTM provides a great way for enthusiasts to install Windows on iPad or run Android on iPhone, UTM does have limitations. Due to hardware limitations and no support for GPU virtualization, it is unable to run DirectX or OpenGL. This sadly prevents UTM from running modern games. Having said that many Windows games especially the classic ones should work just fine.

Here’s a demo on Windows 7 running on iPad through UTM.
