macOS 10.14 Could Bring A System-Wide Dark Mode To Mac

Last year iOS 11 brought an improved Smart Invert feature that is more adaptive when it comes to turning different UI elements and images for the dark user-interface. With the addition of this feature iOS is closer to having a full dark mode than it was a year ago. Now it seems like a similar feature might be making its way to macOS, as noted by developer Guilherme Rambo.

According to the developer he has discovered lines of code in the webkit nightly build that was posted in March of this year. The code suggests some sort of system-wide dark interface may be making its way in this year’s macOS 10.14 update. While the code is designed to adapt the rendering of a website to match the effective appearance of the app, it essentially makes the UI elements such as buttons and lists more suitable for a dark user-interface.

This is not the first time traces of a ‘dark mode’ have been discovered in macOS, as back in 2016 Rambo discovered dark appearances for System preferences and Safari.

A dark mode is one of the most requested software related feature that almost every Apple user wants, and if Apple is paying attention to user demands, a dark mode in macOS shouldn’t take too long to arrive.
