In this guide, we have shared easy-to-follow instructions on how you can turn off read receipts on WhatsApp for iPhone and get rid of the infamous blue ticks.
WhatsApp blue ticks let the sender of a message know that the receiver has read his or her message. The sender can also find out the exact time the message was read by swiping on the message bubble.
If you want to boost your privacy and want to avoid awkward moments where you have read a message but don’t want to respond to it, turning off the Read Receipts feature is the way to go.
Turn off read receipts on WhatsApp
You can easily disable read receipts and hide blue ticks on WhatsApp by following these steps.
- Launch the WhatsApp application.
- Tap on the Settings button from the bottom bar.
- Now tap on the Privacy option.
- On the next page turn off the toggle for Read Receipts.
When you send a message on WhatsApp, you usually see:
- One gray tick: Message sent
- Two gray ticks: Message delivered
- Two blue ticks: Message read
While the grey ticks will still appear to the other user indicating the message has been sent and successfully delivered, they will no longer see the two blue ticks, letting them know that the message has been read.
Remember, you can turn off blue ticks for individual chats only. Group chat users will still be able to see when you read their message even after you have turned off the Read Receipts feature.
