Touch ID feature of iPhone and iPad makes iOS extremely secure and makes it convenient for users to quickly unlock their device. After the success of fingerprint scanners on iOS devices one can certainly say that after iPad the Touch ID feature will soon be making its way to Macs as well. Until then a new third-party app called FingerKey makes it possible for iOS users to unlock Macs with their unique fingerprint. You can add multiple Macs on your iPhone and use the app to unlock them. All you have to do is select the right computer from the list and then scan your finger using the sensor.

FingerKey uses the Bluetooth 4.0 technology, which is very power efficient. For security it is equipped with 256-bit AES encryption that is used when data is transferred between your iPhone and Mac.

Using FingerKey is not only fun but can also save time. To make it faster for you to access the FingerKey app on your iPhone there’s a dedicated Notification Center Widget that you can tap to jump into the application. You will have to add the widget before you can use it.

Of course in addition to FingerKey you will also need a companion app for OS X called FingerLock. After downloading the app on your iOS and OS X devices you have to set up the apps.

You can download FingerKey app for your iPhone for $1.99. Please note that the app is experiencing bugs on iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus, which according to its developer will be fixed soon. If you own one of these devices then wait for the update before making the purchase.
