With Noctis you can add a ‘dark mode’ to a number of things including notifications, Control Center, 3D Touch menus and more. DarkMessages tweak builds on that and brings a black user-interface to the Messages app. The tweak according to its developer enables the ‘built-in’ dark theme found in the Messages app code, so what you will see after installing the tweak is quite close to what Messages app could look like if Apple added a similar theme to its iOS messaging app.
The developer explains on Reddit that there are several different Messages app themes found in iOS 10 code that are meant for different iOS powered devices including iPhone, Apple Watch and Apple TV. Each version features a different style matching the design language of every particular device. With DarkMessages users get to force the Messages app to use its built-in dark theme on jailbroken iPhones and iPads. Although the developer had to make certain changes to make the UI presentable.
Eclipse users would know that you can get a similar look with the popular Eclipse 3 tweak, then why install DarkMessages? While that is true it is nice to have a free alternative since Eclipse is a paid tweak. It is also great for users who only want to add a dark interface to the Messages app.
You can download the Dark Messages tweak from Cydia for free. It fully supports iOS devices running iOS 10. You will be able to download it by adding ‘http://sticktron.github.com/repo’ to your Cydia sources.
