Luca Todesco (qwertyoruiop) has released the iOS 10 Jailbreak and it is now available for download. The jailbreak that supports iOS 10.1.1 is called yalu and has been released as a beta. The hack in its current form is highly unstable and requires at least some level of technical knowledge from the user. This is not your one-click install solution and is definitely not in a form that can be used by general public. Even after the jailbreak process has completed users have to follow a number of steps in order to get Cydia to work. The MobileSubstrate is not working in this beta as according to Luca, it is highly unstable and glitchy.
Perhaps the biggest reason not to act like a daredevil and jailbreak your iOS device using this beta is that it has the potential of bricking your device. If that happens you will have to restore your iPhone or iPad, which would also make you to lose iOS 10.1.1. Since iOS 10.2 is not supported in this jailbreak you will have to wait until someone releases a jailbreak for it or if you have saved your device’s blobs wait for Prometheus’s release. Even the developer behind this jailbreak has called it unstable and asked users to be “better safe than sorry. wait for stable release”.
The first beta of the yalu iOS 10 Jailbreak is available in the form of an Xcode project. There’s also an IPA file that can be side-loaded using the latest Cydia Impactor tool making the process relatively easy. While Luca has not stated anything about the whether his jailbreak is tethered or untethered, many users report that it is in fact semi-untethered. A semi-untethered jailbreak requires users to launch an app on their iPhone after every reboot to activate the jailbreak. A similar jailbreak was released for iOS 9.3.3.
The first beta of yalu supports iOS 10.1 up to iOS 10.1.1 running on iPhone 7. It can also jailbreak iOS 10.x on iPhone 6s and iPad Pro. Some users on Reddit have reported that they were able to jailbreak their iPhone 7 Plus running iOS 10.1.1 without any problems.
So whats next?
If you are into jailbreaking iOS and were able to install iOS 10.1.1 before the signing window closed, then congratulations you will be able to jailbreak. However we advise all non-developers to stay away from the beta release and wait for qwertyoruiop to release a stable version. This way you will not lose iOS 10.1.1 and enjoy jailbreak when everything has been updated. At this point there’s no point of jailbreaking anyway as almost all jailbreak tweaks and Cydia itself is not ready for it. It will take Saurik and tweak developers some time to update things on their end and fully support Luca’s jailbreak. We will update you when new developments are available to share regarding the iOS 10 Jailbreak so stay tuned.
