The Preview app that all Mac users must be familiar with is now available on both iOS and iPadOS. This app will now let you open, edit, and mark up PDFs and images from one place.
In this article, we’re taking a quick look at the new Preview app and what features you can expect from it once iOS 26 is released for everyone in the fall.
Right now, I’m running iOS 26 developer beta 1, so some things can change when the final release of iOS 26 is made available to the public.
The Preview app seems to be an extension of the Files app. It lets you browse through your iPhone’s own storage and iCloud to view documents, PDFs, and images that are stored there.
You can use the app to preview PDF files of your choice and use tools like Markup, Autofill, and Rotation to edit your PDFs.
The Markup toolbar gives you access to all the necessary markup tools that you might want to use to edit documents and highlight certain parts. You can also use the text, signature, shape, and other tools to add various elements to your documents. This works even better when you use Apple Pencil on the iPad with the Preview app.
In addition to this, you get access to the Autofill feature that is perfect for filling out PDF forms.
When you are in the Autofill mode, you can tap on the ‘+’ button to quickly add a signature or a text form box to your PDFs, which makes editing PDFs on the go a breeze.
In the Preview app, you get the Selection tool that you can tap to select the whole page. The ‘i’ button gives you access to the document’s information, such as its size, date modified, page size, and much more.
You can also tap on the three-dot button and rotate the document. This toolbar also gives you access to Visual Intelligence features, Remove Background, and the Go To Page feature, which can be handy when you are trying to find a piece of text or topic in a large document.
When you’re in the browse section, you can create a new image or a document from the clipboard, and quickly scan a document right inside the Preview app, which is super convenient.
So this was our look at the Preview app for iPhone and iPad. The new Preview app will be making its way to all of our devices when iOS 26 and iPadOS 26 updates are released to the public in the fall.
