According to a new report from Bloomberg Apple has officially canceled Project Titan, which was its secret project to build an electric car dubbed as the Apple Car.
The announcement about its cancellation was sent out internally by the company’s COO Jeff Williams and Project Titan’s Lead Kevin Lynch.
According to Mark Gurman, who broke this news in his report on Bloomberg Tim Cook was facing pressure to decide the future of its electric Apple car project and the project had reached a “make-or-break point” inside Apple. Apple’s secretive Project Titan to build an electric car has been in the works since 2014.
There have been multiple leaks and reports about the project with the latest rumor about the project saying Apple is targeting a 2028 release for the Apple Car and it will cost around $100,000. Previous reports had also allegedly revealed that company was in talks with Korean automaker Hyundai to manufacture the Apple Car.
Apple had more than 2,000 people working on the Apple Car project who were surprised by the announcement according to the report. Many of these employees will be reassigned to Apple’s AI team while others will be able to apply for jobs on other Apple teams. Not everyone will be working at the company though as many Project Titan employees will also be laid off.
