In this guide, we show you how you can enable or disable the Ask Reason for Calling feature on your iPhone.
iPhones running iOS 26 or later come with the Screen Unknown Callers feature. It allows the iPhone to automatically pick up a call from an unknown caller and ask the reason for calling before it rings for you.
iPhone asks the caller their reason for calling and shows the answer it has received on the call screen, letting you decide whether you want to pick up the call or not.
Turn on or Turn off Ask Reason for Calling
You can enable or disable this feature on your iPhone by following these steps.
- Unlock your iPhone and open the Settings app.
- Here, scroll down and tap on the Apps option.
- From the next page, find and tap on Phone.
- On the Phone Settings page, scroll down and under Screen Unknown Callers, choose either the Never or Silence option to turn it off. To turn this feature on, select Ask Reason for Calling.
The Never option will turn off the screen unknown callers feature, while the Silence option will prevent calls from unknown callers from ever ringing, sending them directly to voicemail.
After choosing your desired option, simply exit the settings app.
That’s it, this is how you can enable or disable the Ask reason for calling feature on your iPhone, and make your iPhone ask callers the reason for calling.
