iPhone has a hidden little feature called Back Tap that lets you turn its back into a secret button. Yes, you read that right, the back of your iPhone turns into a completely functional button that you can double or triple-tap to perform different actions.

iOS gives a wide range of actions that you can perform by double of triple tapping the back of your iPhone. This includes taking a screenshot, turning on the flashlight, launching an app, or triggering a Shortcut.

Enable and Use Back Tap on iPhone 17

You can enable and configure the Back Tap feature by following the steps below.

  1. Open the Settings app and go to Accessibility.
  2. Here, tap on the Touch option and scroll all the way down.
  3. Tap on the Back Tap option.
  4. Here you will see two options, Double Tap and Triple Tap. Tap on either one of them.
  5. On the next screen, select the action you want to perform.

Once you have selected an action, go back and try double-tapping or triple-tapping on the back of your iPhone. Doing so should trigger the action you selected during setup.

One of the best things about the Back Tap feature is that it can trigger Siri Shortcuts, unlocking a wide range of powerful possibilities.

Back Tap even works with a case on your iPhone. It might take a few tries to get the tap just right at first, but you’ll quickly get the hang of it.
