Apple Could Discontinue Apple Watch Series 3 Later This Year

According to TF International Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo Apple could discontinue the Apple Watch Series 3 in the third quarter of 2022.

Apple has been selling the Apple Watch Series 3 as a budget option and an entry level device in its Apple Watch lineup, which currently consists of the flagship Apple Watch Series 7, Apple Watch SE and Apple Watch Series 3.

Here’s what Apple’s current Apple Watch lineup looks like price-wise

  • Apple Watch Series 7 starting at $399
  • Apple Watch SE starting at $279
  • Apple Watch Series 3 starting at $199

Apple Watch Series 3 despite its $199 price point has been an undesirable option due to its old design (which is the same as the original Apple Watch) and outdated specs.

Apple Watch Series 3 was originally released back in 2017 and lacks modern Apple Watch features, although many of the features it lacks are also not found on Apple Watch SE that at least has a more modern design.

Kuo says Apple discontinuing Watch Series 3 because it doesn’t have the computing power to meet the requirements of new watchOS. It is likely that Apple will discontinue Apple Watch Series 3 at its September media event, at which it might release another budget option that will take Series 3’s place.
