More than two weeks after the release of iOS 18.4, Apple has today released iOS 18.4.1 and iPadOS 18.4.1 for the public. The update brings important bug fixes and security improvements, and is recommended for all users.
Changes in iOS 18.4.1
In the update’s change log, Apple says the update provides important bug fixes, security updates, and fixes a ‘rare’ issue that caused Wireless CarPlay connectivity issues in certain vehicles.
The security fixes introduced in iOS 18.4.1 involve CoreAudio, which could have allowed a maliciously crafted media file to execute code. Another vulnerability related to RPAC, which could have given an attacker read and write capability to bypass pointer authentication, has also been fixed.
Apple says both of these exploits could have been used in extremely sophisticated attacks against specific targeted individuals.
No new features have been introduced in iOS 18.4.1.
You can download the update over the air by going to Settings -> General -> Software Update. You can also download iOS 18.4.1 IPSW on your computer and use iTunes or Finder to install it manually.
In addition to iOS 18.4.1 and iPadOS 18.4.1, Apple has also released macOS 15.4.1, tvOS 18.4.1, and visionOS 2.4.1.
