iPhone 13 is expected to retain the same design as the one found on the iPhone 12. However one big design change that users could welcome this year is the much awaited smaller notch. The new notch will be about 30 percent smaller than the one found on current generation of iPhone.
The infamous iPhone notch, which houses the camera, Face ID components and the earpiece has been centre of ridicule from those who believe iPhone’s camera notch features an outdated design compared to its Android rivals.
Twitter leaker DuanRui has shared some images on his Twitter account that allegedly show the front screen protectors for iPhone 13 mini and iPhone 13. These front screen protectors feature significantly smaller notch. The width of this new notch design is smaller than the one found on current and previous models while the height of the notch appears to be the same.
While the size of the camera and Face ID components is expected to remain the same in the next generation models, Apple is making the notch smaller by moving the earpiece towards the top screen bezel. In previous models the earpiece is placed right in the middle of the notch while the camera is on the right and infrared sensors on the left.
On these alleged iPhone 13 screen protectors we can see the camera and infrared sensors have been moved closer while the earpiece has moved upwards.
Even though the overall design of the next generation iPhones is expected to remain the same as the iPhone 12 lineup, the smaller notch along with other spec upgrades and software features could become the biggest selling points for Apple when promoting the new devices to its loyal fanbase.
Kuo on iPhone 14 and 2022 iPhone lineup
Well known analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has also dropped his predictions for the iPhone’s 2022 lineup, which will include iPhone 14 devices. According to Kuo, Apple will discontinue the iPhone mini lineup and will offer four devices with 6.1-inch and 6.7-inch sizes.
Each iPhone size will come with one high-end and one low-end model. Apple has decided to axe the iPhone mini due to low sales of the iPhone 12 mini. Kuo does note that Apple will still release iPhone 13 mini this year along with other iPhone 13 devices.
As for the iPhone 14 specs, Kuo says the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max will feature 48-megapixel camera on the back, which is a massieve increase from the 12-megapixel sensors we see in iPhone 12 devices. The 48-megapixel sensor will also have increase raw size of each pixel from 1.7um to 2.5um. This will result in better photos with more light and reduced noise.
As for the video the whole iPhone 14 lineup will support 8K video recording.
