In this review, we are taking a look at the Mech Wallet by PunCube. This is an EDC that I am very excited about, as it will be replacing my years-old leather wallet, which, to be honest, now feels bulky and boring.

Design and Mechanism

PunCube Mech Wallet

The Mech Wallet is a slim metal wallet that comes with a fidget-inspired mechanical system. This not only lets you operate the wallet with one hand but also makes the action of opening and closing it quite satisfying.

Inside the packaging, you get a cash holder money clip that you can attach to the wallet if you like.

The Mech Wallet is capable of holding up to 5-6 cards at once. We will definitely put that claim to the test later on.

The wallet’s body is made up of space-grade 6063 aluminium. It offers complete RFID blocking, which means you can rest assured that your cards will stay safe from skimmers, scammers, and thieves.

Styles and MagSafe Attachment

The Mech Wallet comes in three different styles, namely Wasteland, Horizon, and Ripple. Each of these styles offers different push effort, sounds, and smoothness. The one that we tested here is the Wasteland version of the wallet, which, in my opinion, looks more rugged and cool out of the three options.

We were also sent a MagSafe attachment that you can attach to the back of the wallet, and then use the power of magnets to attach the wallet to your MagSafe-compatible iPhone whenever you like.

The magnetic connection between the iPhone and the wallet is quite strong and requires some force when you want to separate the two, which is a good thing.

Three-Month Long-Term Review

It has been three months since I started using the Mech Wallet as my primary wallet.

When I first switched from a full-size leather wallet to this card holder style wallet, I was unsure whether I would be able to use it for the long-term, especially due to the fact that I won’t be able to carry any cash in this wallet due to using the MagSafe attachment.

To my surprise, I grew accustomed to using this wallet in just a few days, and I cannot go back to using traditional wallets.

The convenience of securely carrying 5-6 cards in the wallet and the satisfaction of opening and closing this wallet made the switch super easy. The tough metallic frame and the rugged looks are just one of the many reasons why I prefer this wallet over any traditional wallet.

The strong magnetic connection and one-handed operations make the experience very user-friendly. Even when the wallet is not attached to my iPhone, it sits in my front pocket quite comfortably. The slim design, even with the MagSafe attachment on, helps me place the wallet in my front pocket and forget about it until, of course, I need to make a payment.

I typically carry 3 credit cards, an ID, and a gym membership card in my wallet. I have found that 5 cards is the ideal spot for this wallet, as placing a 6 card can make things a little tight and add resistance to the otherwise smooth action.

I do need to carry cash in one of the front pockets of my pants, which took some getting used to coming from a traditional wallet. I did get used to it, and now it has become part of my routine to keep whatever cash I am carrying in the front pocket.

Pros and Cons

The only complaint that I have with this wallet is that with the MagSafe attachment, it might feel a bit heavy to some, and the fact that I cannot use the MagSafe attachment and the money clip at the same time.

Pros

  • Slim and minimal design
  • Satisfying Mechanical System
  • Strong MagSafe connection (with accessory)

Cons

  • Cannot use the MagSafe attachment and the money clip together
  • Can feel tight with 6 cards
  • Slightly heavy, especially with the MagSafe module

Amazing

Overall, I am very impressed with the PunCube Mech Wallet and highly recommend it to anyone who wants to replace an old traditional wallet with a nice and minimalistic metallic wallet.

Pricing and availability

You can buy the Mech Wallet from PunCube’s website for $99. Right now, Puncube is having a 30% off, which reduces the price to just $69. The MagSafe module costs an additional $27, although that too is on sale and can be purchased for just $18.

You get a 5-year warranty with the mech wallet, which is reassuring. The wallet comes in 2 material options, 3 styles, and various colors.
