Apple iPhone 7 Plus exclusively features the Portrait mode, which allows users to add a DSLR style faux depth effect to their photo. The bokeh effect as it is also called makes a portrait photo look like it has been taken from a professional camera and makes the main subject focus of attention by blurring the background. Sadly the bokeh effect is only available on iPhone 7 Plus, however a new app called Patch brings the same feature to all iPhones. Patch as its developer admits is not perfect, however it works fine most of the time. With this app you can add depth effect to any photo that is in your camera roll.
Patch uses neural network to determine the subject in an image and automatically adds the depth effect in the background. As Patch is not perfect, the app also allows the users to edit their images to fix up the results. Patch solely focuses on adding the depth effect to photos, which is a good thing as it tries to do this one task perfectly and you get a clutter-free application. It also offers multiple blur settings that you can use to edit and bring out the best result.
You can download Patch from the App Store for free. While the app is free to use, it adds a small watermark on the bottom right side of your photos. To remove the watermark you can get an in-app purchase of $1.
