For the past few months we are anticipating the launch of AirPods 2, which would bring new features like wireless charging, Hey Siri support, new color options and more. However now it looks like we might have to wait much longer, as Onleaks has tweeted new details about the future of AirPods. Onleaks has a proven record of leaking information about Apple products months before their release.
According to the leaker Apple will not be launching the ‘AirPods 2’ until fall of this year, however it is planning on releasing wireless charging case soon. Onleaks says the information comes from ‘yet unconfirmed but seemingly reliable source’.
If this turns out to be true, then we may soon start getting a wireless charging case along with newly purchased AirPods while the headphones will remain the same. Apple may also allow existing AirPods users to upgrade to wireless charging equipped case for by purchasing the case separately. Then in the fall Apple will release AirPods 2, which would be bringing new features that can include new color options and more.
The release of AirPods wireless charging case should not come as a surprise as Apple had announced the addition of wireless charging capability for original AirPods in September 2017 along with iPhone X’s announcement. The wireless charging case for AirPods has been delayed ever since along with the AirPower charging mat accessory.
