Design & Build Quality
The UGREEN Nexode Pro 160W Charger features the same premium design that we see in all other UGREEN products. The charger features a nice matte grey finish that looks modern.
At the front of the charger you get a Smart Display that shows you charging information and other useful information. You also get the retractable cable and 3 charging ports.
Unlike the traditional GaN chargers that look oversized power bricks, the Nexode Pro has a vertical tower-style design.
The charger is larger than your average 100W GaN Charger, but considering its massive capability of delivering 160W power, ability to charge 4 devices simultaneously, a built-in retractable 140W charging cable, and a display, I don’t think the size is unreasonable at all.
Despite everything packed inside, the charger only weight347g for the tested UK version and 330g for the EU version. While that’s definitely not pocket-sized but it’s still light enough to throw into a backpack without thinking twice.
Charging Ports & Power Output
Let’s talk about what this charger can deliver because port selection is one of its biggest strengths. On the front you get four charging outputs that includes a built-in USB-C cable, two additional USB-C ports and a USB-A port.
Together they can charge up to four devices at the same time. That means you can plug in your MacBook Pro, iPhone, iPad, and AirPods together.
The built-in retractable USB-C cable supports up to 140W Power Delivery 3.1. This is enough to charge your MacBook Pro at full capacity. You don’t even have to carry a charging cable for your MacBook as the built-in cable takes care of your charging needs.
The USB-C1 port can also deliver up to 140W while the USB-C2 goes up to maximum 100W.
The traditional USB-A port, which is perfect for charging accessories like iPads, portable gaming consoles, Apple Watch, and AirPods can deliver up to 22.5W.
The charger comes with UGREEN’s GaNInfinity and Thermal Guard technologies, which makes the charger safe for your devices.
The Retractable USB-C Cable
My favorite feature of the UGREEN Nexode Pro 160W is its retractable USB-C cable. It’s such a simple idea, but once you start using it, you realize how convenient it really is.
The cable extends up to 70 centimetres, giving you enough reach whether you are charging from a wall outlet at an airport, cafe, or beside your desk.
And when you are done using it, you can simply retract it back into the charger. UGREEN says the integrated cable is tested for over 25,000 pull cycles and 10,000 swing tests, which is reassuring.
Smart Display
One standout feature of the UGREEN Nexode 160W Charger is its Smart Dispaly. This is not a feature that you normally see on wall chargers, and its actually useful too.
Instead of a simple LED indicator that you get on most chargers, the Smart Display shows you useful information like:
- Current charging power
- Voltage
- Current
- Charging protocol
- Temperature
- And how power is being distributed across connected devices all in real time.
As someone who reviews charging accessories regularly, I love being able to instantly see exactly what’s happening. The ability to see charging speeds for each device removes all the guesswork. You immediately know if your laptop is pulling the full 140 watts or if another device is sharing the available power.
App connectivity
The UGREEN Nexode Pro 160W Charger works with UGREENConnect App over Wi-Fi. This means you can remotely monitor every charging port, see live information, adjust charging settings, switch between charging modes, and even update firmware on the charger over the air.
Having software features on the charger might seem unnecessary at first, but if you have multiple expensive devices that are connected to the charger throughout the day, then being able to monitor everything from your phone is actually convenient.
It also gives the charger a level of future-proofing thanks to firmware updates. In addition to changing charging protocols and monitoring output, you can also do fun things like change the background wallpaper from the app.
Real World Experience and verdict
In my testing, the charger handled everything I threw at it. I charged my MacBook Pro, iPhone, iPad and AirPods at the same time without any issues. The charger did not get hot or drop charging output through out the charging process.
The smart display made it easy to see how power was being distributed, and the retractable cable quickly became my favorite feature because I no longer needed to carry an extra charging cable.
I also like that although it’s a high-power charger, it doesn’t feel excessively bulky in a backpack.
It’s definitely bigger than a typical phone charger, but considering everything it offers, I think UGREEN has done a great job balancing power, portability, and convenience.
I have to say I’m genuinely impressed with the UGREEN Nexode Pro 160W Charger. It isn’t just another powerful GaN charger. The built-in retractable cable makes traveling much easier. The smart display provides useful information instead of just looking flashy. The app adds features you simply don’t get with most chargers on the market.
And of course, the 160-watt output gives you enough power to replace multiple chargers with a single device.
After spending time with it, I honestly love all of these features because they solve real everyday problems rather than adding gimmicks.
