As Instagram’s influence grew the social network also got plagued with fake follows and likes. If you are an Instagram user, then you know what we are talking about. It is not hard to come across Instagram profiles that have thousands of likes and followers even when they barely post anything worth looking at. Such accounts use third-party apps and services to increase their follower count, where they can also get fake likes and comments for their posts.
Now it looks like Instagram is finally going after fake followers and likes as Instagram now says they have started removing inauthentic likes, follows and comments from their social network. Instagram says it is going to use machine learning tools in order to identify accounts that have used services to add inauthentic follows and likes to their account. Once such accounts have been identified inauthentic activity will be removed from these accounts.
Instagram is also notifying users who may have unknowingly given their login credentials to a third-party app. If a user has shared his or her login details with a likes and follower boosting service, they will get an in-app message telling them to change their password.
