In this tutorial, we show you how you can add or change emergency contacts on your iPhone so that your loved ones can be contacted in case of an emergency or when you invoke Emergency SOS.

Your Emergency Contacts are listed on your Medical ID page, which can be accessed right on the Lock Screen. This allows emergency services to reach your loved ones.

Add or Change Emergency Contact on iPhone

To add or change your Emergency Contacts, follow these steps.

  1. Unlock your iPhone and go to Settings.
  2. Scroll down and tap on Apps.
  3. Here, tap on the Health option.
  4. Now tap on Medical ID.
  5. Scroll down and tap on the Edit button next to the Emergency Contacts section heading.
  6. To remove an existing contact, tap on the red ‘-‘ button. To add a new contact tap on ‘Add Emergency Contact’.
  7. From the list of contacts, find and tap on the relative or friend you want to add as your Emergency Contact.
  8. Next, choose your relationship with that contact. This will be displayed along with their name and number.
  9. Now return to the Home Screen.

Now, anyone who accesses your Medical ID can see your Emergency Contact info. You can add multiple emergency contacts, and this feature is available on all iPhones running recent versions of iOS.

Important: Go to Settings -> Apps -> Health -> Medical ID and make sure the toggle for ‘Show When Locked’ is turned on.

Anyone can see the Medical ID of a user and see Emergency Contacts right on the lock screen. To do this, tap on the ‘Emergency’ option on the passcode screen.

Then tap on the Medical ID option. On the Medical ID page, you should find the Emergency Contacts added by the owner of the device.
