Apple Releases iOS 17 Public Beta, Here’s How To Install It

Apple has just released the first iOS 17 public beta, and it is now available for download for those who are registered with Apple’s Public Beta Program. iPadOS 17 public beta is also available for iPads.

In addition to iOS 17 public beta and iPadOS 17 public beta, Apple has also released public betas for macOS Sonoma, watchOS 10, and tvOS 17. You can download these on compatible devices as well.

But before you begin to note:

  • iOS 17 public betas are buggy. That’s why they are only meant to be installed on test devices. You should avoid installing public betas on devices that you use for work or rely on for your day-to-day activities.
  • iOS 17 public beta is available over the air. This means you will need an active Internet connection in order to download and install this update on your device.
  • iOS 17 is compatible with the iPhone and iPad models listed on this page. You can install iOS 17 public beta on these devices only.
  • Your iPhone or iPad needs to be running iOS 16.4 or later.

Install iOS 17 Public Beta and iPadOS 17 Public Beta

You can follow the step by step instructions below in order to install iOS 17 public beta on your iPhone. Same steps can be followed to install iPadOS 17 public beta on iPads.

Step 1. In any web browser open the Apple Beta Software Program website and click on the Sign Up button.

Step 2. Sign up with the Apple ID. You can sign up with the Apple ID that is used to set up your iOS device or you can use another Apple ID and log in to this Apple ID on the Software Update page later. Follow the on-screen instructions.

Step 3. After signing up for the developer beta program, on your iPhone or iPad open Settings -> General -> Software Update.

Step 4. On this page, you should see the Beta Updates option, tap on it.

Step 5. On the next screen make sure you select iOS 17 Public Beta and return to the previous screen.

Step 6. Kill the Settings app from the App Switcher and go to Settings -> General -> Software Update section again. You should see the option to download iOS 17 public beta.

Note: If you don’t see iOS 17 public beta option on the Software Update page, just restart your device and try again.
