If you own a pair of AirPods, AirPods Pro, or AirPods Max, then you are going to find this useful. In this guide, we have shown you how to enable or disable the Noise Cancellation feature on your AirPods in just a few simple steps.
Here we will also explain why your AirPods Pro 2nd generation do not have the off option for turning off Noise Cancellation.
First, let’s make sure your AirPods model supports Noise Cancellation. Here are the models that have this feature.
- AirPods Pro
- AirPods Pro 2
- AirPods 4
- AirPods Max

Turn On Noise Cancellation
- Connect your AirPods to your iPhone and wear them.
- Swipe down from the top left corner of your iPhone’s screen to access Control Center.
- Long-press on the Volume Slider to expand it.
- Tap on the Noise Control button at the bottom.
- Here you can select between Noise Cancellation and Transparency mode. Tap on Noise Cancellation.
Another way of enabling Noise Cancellation on AirPods is through the Settings app.
Simply go to Settings -> Bluetooth and tap on the ‘i’ button located next to your AirPods’ name. On the next screen, look under Listening Modes and select Noise Cancellation.
Turn Off Noise Cancellation
You can turn off Noise Cancellation on your AirPods with the following steps.
- Connect your AirPods to iPhone and put them on your ears.
- Swipe down from the top left corner to access Control Center.
- Long-press on the volume slider to access more controls.
- Tap on the Noise Control option.
- Finally, select the Off option.
To turn off Noise Cancellation from Settings, go to Settings -> Bluetooth and tap on the ‘i’ button located next to your AirPods’ name. On the next screen, look under Listening Modes and select Off.
If you don’t see the Off option, then you have to select the Adaptive option. This will turn off Noise Cancellation on your headphones.
Don’t have the Off option for Noise Cancellation
If your AirPods support the Noise Cancellation feature, but you don’t see the Off option under Noise Control or Listening Modes, then read below.
On newer models of AirPods, such as the AirPods Pro 2, Apple has introduced a new mode called Adaptive mode. This mode blends the Noise Cancellation and Transparency modes together to control the level of noise you hear based on changing noise conditions in your environment. Instead of completely turning Noise Cancellation off, you have to select Adaptive mode, which has the same effect as turning the feature off.
