In this tutorial, you will learn tricks like force restarts, charging tips, and how to put your iPhone in Recovery Mode so it turns on as expected.
Fix iPhone not turning on
Force Restart
The most effective solution to getting an iPhone fixed when it is not turning on is a force restart. Here’s how you can force restart your iPhone.
iPhone 8 or later:
- Press and release the Volume Up button.
- Press and release the Volume Down button.
- Press and hold the Side button until the Apple logo appears.
For iPhone 7: Press and hold the Volume Down and Side button until the Apple logo appears.
For iPhone 6s or older: Press and hold the Home Button and Power Button until you see the Apple logo.
Charging tips
More often than not, the iPhone refuses to turn on because it is simply out of battery. Try plugging your iPhone to its charger for at least 15 to 30 minutes and then try to turn it back on.
Make sure the charger and cable you’re using are working perfectly and are not broken. You can do this by plugging them into another Apple device.
Always use Apple-Certified cable and charging brick, and non-genuine accessories can cause the iPhone to not charge.
Recovery Mode

If the tips above have not helped, then you need to put your iPhone into Recovery Mode. Once it is in Recovery Mode, you can update or restore it, which can solve many of the issues that cause the device to not turn on.
- Connect your iPhone to your Mac or PC with a cable.
- Perform the same steps as Force Restart (mentioned above), but once the Apple logo appears, keep holding the Side button until you see the Recovery Mode screen.
- On your computer, open Finder or iTunes in case of Windows. Choose Update to update iOS without erasing your data.
After the iOS reinstall has completed, your iPhone should start working again.
If the problem persists, then you should contact Apple support and seek professional help.
