Apple has officially introduced the M3 MacBook Air, covering both 13-inch and 15-inch models. The tech giant’s latest offering is said to “redefine how we see MacBooks” with advancements in chip performance, connectivity, and design. Orders for the new laptops are open starting today, with shipping commencing on March 8.
Enhanced Performance with M3 Chip
The M3 MacBook Air takes a giant leap in performance, anchored by its upgraded M3 chip. This cutting-edge component, built with advanced 3-nanometer technology, sports an accelerated 8-core CPU and up to a 10-core GPU. Therefore, promising users a substantial performance boost as it now stands as much as 60 percent faster than its predecessor, the M1 model. Moreover, its performance leaps over the fastest Intel-based MacBook Air, with the M3 version boasting a 13-fold increase.
Furthermore, the Neural Engine, a critical component for AI tasks, has not been left behind in these advancements. With these improvements, the M3 MacBook Air solidifies its position as the “world’s best consumer laptop for AI.”
Connectivity and Display Capabilities
The M3 chip introduces expanded support for external displays, allowing users to connect up to two simultaneously, addressing a previous limitation.
However, it’s crucial to note that the ability to connect two external displays is only functional when the laptop lid is closed. In other words, while users can now enjoy a MacBook Air desk setup with dual external displays, the laptop must remain in clamshell mode to utilize this feature effectively. If the lid is open, the MacBook Air screen remains active, limiting external display functionality to just one like the previous M1 and M2 models.
Form and Design
The M3 MacBook Air retains its minimalist appeal. Since it features a thin-bezel screen, it maximizes the visual real estate without compromising on the device’s compact form. Plus, complementing this feature is the flat-edged chassis that contributes to the overall modern aesthetic and ensures a comfortable grip for users on the go.
Another distinctive characteristic of the M3 MacBook Air is the camera notch cutout that’s seamlessly integrated into the thin-bezel screen. Although this design element adds to the visual appeal, it also enhances the functionality of the built-in FaceTime HD camera. As for the color palette, the M3 MacBook Air is available in four distinct colors including midnight, starlight, space gray, and silver.
Pricing and Availability
Orders for the new MacBook can be placed through the Apple online store starting today. The 13-inch MacBook Air with M3 is priced at $1099, with an education pricing option at $999. On the other hand, the 15-inch model starts at $1299, with an education price of $1199, maintaining consistency with the previous M2 range. Notably, the 13-inch M2 MacBook Air remains available at a new lower price of $999, following the discontinuation of the M1 model.
