Apple’s Scary Fast media event just ended with the company announcing several new products and updates to the Apple Silicon. One of the most exciting announcements of today’s event is the launch of the new MacBook Pro lineup with an M3 lineup of chips.
Apple has launched three new models of MacBook Pro including a 14-inch MacBook Pro with M3 chip, a 14-inch MacBook Pro with M3 Pro and M3 Max chip, and a 16-inch MacBook Pro with M3 Pro and M3 Max chip.
All three MacBook Pro models feature the same design as their predecessors however there are big changes on the inside. Apple has also killed the 13-inch Macbook Pro, and in its place launched a new 14-inch MacBook Pro starting at $1,599.
This new M3 MacBook Pro features the same design as the higher-end 14-inch MacBook Pro with M3 Pro and M3 Max chips but offers lower performance at a lower price point. Apple is marketing it towards creatives, students, and entrepreneurs. This base model of 14-inch MacBook Pro with M3 chip comes with 8GB RAM only.
The new MacBook Pros are powered by the M3 family of chips. These are the first Mac chips that are designed with 3-nanometer technology. The new chip offers a Dynamic Caching feature for better graphics performance. The M3 Max MacBook Pros support up to 128GB of unified memory.
So how fast are these new MacBooks compared to the previous generations? Well, here’s a rundown of the new devices compared with the older models.

Here’s how fast is M3 MacBook Pro
- The 14-inch M3 MacBook Pro is 60% faster than the 13-inch MacBook Pro with an M1 chip. It can render 7.4 faster in Final Cut Pro compared to the 13-inch MacBook Pro with i7 and 60% faster than the 13-inch MacBook Pro with M1.
- When it comes to code compilation in Xcode this new MacBook Pro is 40% faster than the M1 13-inch MacBook Pro and 3.7x faster than the 13-inch MacBook Pro with Intel i7 processor.
- Spreadsheet performance is also 3.5 faster than that i7 model and 40% faster than the M1 chip model.
Here’s how fast are M3 Pro 14-inch MacBook Pro and 16-inch MacBook Pro
- Apple says the 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pros with M3 Pro chips are 40% faster than the 16-inch MacBook Pro with M1 Pro.
- In Adobe Photoshop filter and function performance is 3x faster than Intel-based MacBook Pro and 40% faster than M1 Pro 16-inch MacBook Pro.
- Text-based editing in Adobe Premiere Pro is 1.7x faster than Intel-based MacBook Pro and 30% faster than the M1 Pro model.
- Basescalling for DNA sequencing in Oxford Nanopore MinKNOW is up to 20x faster than the Intel MacBook Pro and 36% faster than the M1 Pro 16-inch MacBook Pro.
Here’s how fast are 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro with M3 Max
- Apple says the new M3 Max MacBook Pro is 2.5x faster than the M1 Max MacBook Pro. They are a whopping 11x faster than the Intel-based core i9 MacBook Pro model.
- Noise reduction in Blackmagic DaVinci Resolve Studio is up to 2.7x faster than Intel-based MacBook Pro and 65% faster than M1 Max.
- Simulation of dynamical systems in MathWorks MATLAB is 5.5x faster than the Intel-based MacBook Pro and 2x faster than the M1 Max 16-inch MacBook Pro.
- Render performance in Maxon Redshift is up to 5.3x faster than the Intel-based MacBook Pro and 2.5x faster than the M1 Max MacBook Pro.
