Apple Increases iPhone 15’s Battery Cycle Lifespan From 500 To 1000 Cycles

Apple has updated the battery cycle lifespan for iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro devices and the new change is reflected on the Battery Health settings page in the latest beta of iOS 17.4.

Apple now says iPhone 15 series devices including iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Plus, iPhone 15 Pro, and iPhone 15 Pro Max would retain 80% of their original capacity at 1000 complete charge cycles. This is twice the previously claimed charge cycles of 500 for current and previous-generation iPhones.

Apple has revised the battery health lifespan only for iPhone 15 models, and estimates for older iPhones including iPhone 14 series devices and older remain the same at 500 charge cycles. The charge cycle lifespan might also change for older devices as Apple is currently investigating older iPhone models as well.

According to Apple the battery cycle lifespan of iPhone 15 models was increased after the company conducted charging and discharging tests. These tests, which were conducted under ‘specific circumstances based on common use cases’ indicated to the company that the iPhone’s battery is good for 1000 charge cycles instead of the previously claimed 500 cycles. In the upcoming iOS 17.4 update, Apple has also made tweaks to the Battery page of the Settings app. Now users will be able to see the current Maximum Capacity of their iPhone’s battery right on the main Battery page rather than having to go under the Battery Health & Charging screen.

iOS 17.4 also makes access to the Charging Optimization option easier by moving it from the Battery Health & Charging page to the main Battery settings page.
