According to a recent rumor Apple may be gearing up to release a new 13-inch MacBook model in the second half of 2018. This new model will be replacing the MacBook Air, which is long overdue an upgrade. The rumor originates from a DigiTimes report that notes Apple display supplier General Interface Solution (GIS) is expected to get more LCD display orders from the company, with the shipments expected to increase from 300,000 units per month to 600,000 units per month by the end of 2018.
The increased number of LCD displays will be used for Apple’s new 13-inch MacBook model. With the introduction of this 13-inch MacBook model, Apple will be killing the 13-inch entry level MacBook Air that starts at $999.
Despite not having a Retina Display screen and newer MacBook features like force touch trackpad or Touch Bar, MacBook Air has been a popular choice among those looking to buy a MacBook at a relatively affordable price. While its design is still not as outdated as its display, its about time Apple updates the MacBook Air or release a model to replace it at a similar price point and with modern specs.
It would be interesting to see what kind of improvements Apple brings to this rumored 13-inch MacBook model. Will we get a MacBook Air design or something that would be closer to 12-inch MacBook that features a thin design but only 1 USB-Type C and a headphone jack, only time will tell. (MacRumors)
