Apple has just released iOS 18.0 for all users and it is now available for download. Today’s release comes after months of beta testing with developers and public beta testers.
iOS 18 is a major software release that brings a wide range of new features to iPhones and iPads. The biggest features that Apple is bringing with iOS 18 are Apple Intelligence features, and how many Apple Intelligence features will be available to users with iOS 18.1, which are scheduled for next month.
Features of iOS 18 include home screen customizations, with the ability for users to change icon tints and icon sizes, and the option to place icons anywhere on the home screen.
Control Center has also been fully redesigned and now features a customizable layout consisting of multiple pages. Users can now resize Control Center widgets, move them around, and more.
Messages app has received many new changes in this update. The most talked about new feature is the support for RCS messaging, which will allow cross-platform communication between iOS and Android users. Android users will be able to see typing indicators, high-quality photos, and videos, and join Groups. In iMessage users will also be able to access new features like Send Later features, which will enable them to schedule messages, add effects like ripple, snake, jitter, etc to messages, make message text bold, italic, and more.
On the lock screen, users will be able to change the lock screen controls and replace the usual camera and flashlight buttons with any action of their choice.
iOS 18 also brings the iPhone Mirroring feature that allows Mac users to not only mirror their iPhone’s screen on their computer wirelessly but also interact with its interface, while the device sits in their pocket. You can also receive iPhone notifications on your Mac, and when you click on these notifications iPhone mirroring will launch and let you access the relevant app.
The stock Photos app has received a major overhaul in this update. This includes a new Collections feature, redesigned Search, and separate categories for photos and videos for trips, pets, people, and trips.
iOS 18 brings features like Writing Tools, that allow users to use Artificial intelligence to improve text in any app. Users can ask iOS to proofread a text, change its tone to make it sound more professional or friendly, and more.
Other features of iOS 18 include the ability to lock any app, hide apps in a special hidden apps folder, improvements for Apple Wallet, new Game Mode, Apple Notes improvements, a new Calculator app with units and currency conversion, and more.
