Almost a week after releasing the iOS 18.2 RC and a subsequent release of RC 2, Apple has today released iOS 18.2 and iPadOS 18.2 updates for the public. The update is released after an extensive beta testing period where both developers and public beta testers participated.
You can now head over to the Software Update section of your iPhone and install the iOS 18.2 update over the air. Apple Intelligence features are exclusively available on iPhone 16 models, iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, and iPads with M1 chip or later.
Apple has also released macOS Sequoia 15.2, tvOS 18.2, watchOS 11.2, and visionOS 2.2 to public.
iOS 18.2 is a massive update that brings a bunch of Apple Intelligence features to iPhones and iPads.
In iOS 18.2 Apple is releasing the following Apple Intelligence features:
- Writing Tools: Apple is introducing the Compose feature that will allow users to generate text based on their description. The new Describe your change option will allow users to make changes to a piece of text by describing what kind of changes they want.
- Image Playground: This lets users create images by typing descriptions.
- Image Wand: Allows users to turn rough sketches into AI-generated images.
- Genmoji: Allows users to generate custom emojis based on their descriptions.
- Visual Intelligence: This new feature will allow users of iPhone 16 to press their device’s camera control button and point the camera to things around to learn about them.
Apple Intelligence features aren’t the only new features that users can look forward to in this update. iOS 18.2 also brings new Mail Categorization features in the Mail app, which will sort user’s messages and help them prioritize their most important messages.
Photos app is getting improvements to the video viewing experience, as now users will be able to scrub frame by frame and turn off auto looping in video playback. Users will now be able to clear history for Recently Viewed and Recently Shared albums. Users will get a better navigation experience in Collections views and have the ability to swipe right to go back to the previous view.
Safari is getting new background images, the ability to export browsing data and import data from other apps, an HTTPS Priority feature that will upgrade URLs to HTTPS whenever possible, and File Download Live Activity so the user can see the progress of their downloads in Dynamic Island.
The update also improves the Voice Memos feature, AirTag sharing feature with Airlines, Natural Language search for Apple Music, Favorite Categories feature for Podcasts, and more.
