Ahead of next week’s iOS 18.1 launch, Apple has today released iOS 18.2 Beta to developers and it is now available to download. Currently, it is only available on Apple Intelligence-compatible iPhones and iPads.
iOS 18.2 is going to be a major release as it has introduced many new Apple Intelligence features that were missing from iOS 18.0 and iOS 18.1 releases. This includes the highly anticipated Genmoji feature, which will use AI to generate custom Emojis for the user. In addition to this Image Playground feature, which will allow users to generate cartoon-style custom images from scratch using text prompts has also been added in iOS 18.2.
ChatGPT integration with Siri and Writing Tools (already available in iOS 18.1) is also being launched in iOS 18.2. This new integration will allow users to use ChatGPT for Siri and text generation and enhancement requests in addition to using Apple’s own AI models. Image generation via ChatGPT will also be available to users. Users will also be able to ask ChatGPT questions related to PDF documents, presentations, etc.
For iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Pro users, iOS 18.2 brings the Visual Intelligence feature, which will allow users to hold down the Camera Control on the lock screen and point to an object to learn more about it. For example, they can learn about a pet’s breed by pointing a camera at it, learn about a business’s opening and closing hours and ratings, learn about an upcoming event by pointing at a poster on a wall, and more.
The redesigned Mail app, which was missing from iOS 18 has finally been introduced in iOS 18.2 beta. This includes a new design and features like Priority messages, Thread summaries, preview summaries, and smart replies. The new Mail app now has smart categories titled Primary, Transactions, Update, and Promotions. This will allow the app to intelligently sort the messages in various categories to make the user’s life easier.
iOS 18.2’s Availability
iOS 18.2 expands Apple Intelligence to new regions. Previously the feature was only available in US English and to those who had set their region as US from Settings. However now it is expanding to new countries including Australia, Canada, New Zealand, South Africa, and the United Kingdom.
You can update to iOS 18.2 Developer Beta if you have an iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro, iPhone 16 Pro Max, iPhone 15 Pro, and iPhone 15 Pro Max. It is also available on iPads that have an M1 chip or later.
Apple has also released macOS Sequoia 15.2 beta with new Apple Intelligence features.
