iOS hacker iH8sn0w shows untethered iOS 9 jailbreak on video

Cydia iOS 9

Apple is going to publicly release the iOS 9 software update for all supported devices on 15th September, while it has already seeded the GM to developers. After hearing this news the first thing that came into our minds was will we see a jailbreak for this new software update, and if yes then when. It seems like the jailbreak might get released sooner than later as well known iOS hacker iH8Sn0w has posted a video on his Youtube channel showcasing the untethered iOS 9 jailbreak.

The video that has been embedded below clearly shows Cydia running in its full glory. The hacker also managed to install Anemone theme tweak using which he replaced the icons of the homescreen. iH8sn0w says that in addition to jailbreak being untethered, he was able to inject code into his iPhone, apply a custom boot logo and boot with Verbose mode.

In the video’s description the hacker notes that while he was ‘annoyed’ by how certain things were in the new OS, he was also surprised at “how similar it was to iOS 8 internally”.

The video does not tell us when a jailbreak for iOS 9 will be released for public, although it certainly shows that a jailbreak is indeed possible. This is a big relief for the jailbreak community who were afraid Apple might get its way this time around and block the jailbreak for a long time, if not forever.

We will update you on the whole iOS 9 jailbreak story as we get more info. Until then check out our coverage of iPhone 6s, iPad Pro and the new Apple TV.
