Pre-orders for Apple’s iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max will begin on September 9 and the devices will begin shipping on September 16.

Perhaps the biggest and most noticeable change in iPhone 14 Pro is the introduction of Dynamic Island. This new feature not only removes the big notch, replacing it with a pill shaped camera cut out but also allows iOS to cleverly use the cutout for things like displaying notifications and activities.

With Dynamic Island the TrueDepth camera takes up less space. Dynamic Island can also display information about ongoing background activities for Maps, Music, timer etc. It is also capable of showing information from third-party apps and show scores, ride sharing and more.

Apple has included a quad-pixel sensor to iPhone and introduced a new Photonic Engine, which improves low light photos. Apple has upgraded the 12-megapixel Ultra Wide camera, which now has 1.4 µm pixels for sharper images and improved macro photography.

Both devices also come with improved adaptive True Tone flash that has an array of nine LEDs, which change pattern based on the chosen focal length.

Apple has added new safety features to iPhones this year with iPhone 14 Pro featuring Emergency SOS via Satellite. This feature will allow users to communicate with emergency services over satellite in remote areas where there is no cellular service available. Apple has also added new Crash Detection feature, which can detect car crashes and automatically call emergency services.

The devices are powered by new A16 Bionic Chip and feature 6.1-inch and 6.7-inch Super Retina XDR display with ProMotion. For the first time Apple has added Always-On functionality to the iPhone, allowing the device to run the display at 1Hz refresh rate.

With Always-On iPhone can make the new iOS 16 lock screen even more useful by displaying time, widgets and live activities without fully turning on the display. The new screen is brighter as well and can achieve highest outdoor peak brightness in a smartphone at 2000 nits.

iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max will be available in four color options including Deep Purple, Silver, Gold and Space Black.

iPhone 14 Pro starts at $999, which is the same price as last year. iPhone 14 Pro Max starts at $1099. Both of these models come at a base storage of 128GB.
