Get storage space back on iPhone or iPad with CacheClearer tweak

If you are someone who has many photos, videos and apps on his or her iPhone or iPad then you would know how difficult it can be to manage the limited storage on these devices. Most iOS users I know always complain about not having enough storage capacity available to them even for their day to day usage. If you also have this problem then a new Cydia tweak called CacheClearer can help. It has been created and released by well known tweak developer Ryan Petrich and is available under his private beta repository.

What CacheClearer does is it clears the cache used by apps you have installed on your device and as a result frees up space that you can use. While this is a temporary way of gaining back the storage space since whenever you relaunch that application it will store the cache again, it can be useful in times when you have run out of memory that you can use. The best thing about this new tweak is that it integrates with iOS’s Settings app, so you can access its functions by going to Settings > General > Usage > Manage Storage. From there you can tap on individual apps and then on the next screen find the CacheClearer’s buttons. The tweak adds two buttons to the application’s page including ‘Reset App’ and ‘Clear App’s Cache’.

By tapping on the ‘Clear App’s Cache’ button you can clear the memory it is using to store temporary data. This will allow you to free up some disk space, the amount you can gain really depends on the app you are clearing. For example apps like Facebook, WhatsApp, Instagram etc. that have a lot of images and videos may be storing more data than apps that are only text based. When you tap on this button the tweak will tell you how much space you have freed. It will also inform you that the next time you launch that app it may use more data or run slower.

The ‘Reset App’ button on the other hand allows users to basically reset the app to its original form. So if you reset your Facebook app, all of its data will be deleted and you will be signed out of it. This is same as if you just downloaded the application for the first time. This also helps in freeing up storage consumed by that application.

CacheClearer is a nice tweak and has been implemented pretty well. Although it is still in beta it works fine and does it job without any errors. You can download it from Cydia through Ryan Petrich’s private repo for free. Add  http://rpetri.ch/repo to your sources to get it.

  1. “clear the memory it is using to store temporary data. This will allow you to free up some disk space,”..

What has memory to do with disk space ? nothing.
Battery Doctor is free, does clear memory cache, temp data.. and much more, and doesn’t require Jailbreaking your iOS device.
