If you are an iPhone user who interacts with GIF images a lot then you would know that iOS is not very good at handling them. A hack called GIFPaper aims to change this situation by enabling users to set GIF based animated wallpapers on their iPhone, iPad or iPod touch. With this tweak installed users can place any GIF image of their choice on homescreen as well as lockscreen. Until now you could only apply still images as wallpaper or use the limited ‘live wallpapers’ that Apple added in iOS 7.
With GIFPaper however you can apply any animated GIF you want without any problem. Using this tweak is quite simple, all you have to do is in Safari open the webpage that has your favorite GIF. You then have to tap and hold until the menu appears. From that menu you can select the ‘Set Wallpaper’ option.
Alternatively, you can copy and paste the URL of the GIF image in the GIFPaper settings. From there you can also configure how you want the wallpaper to appear, which includes option such as scale to fit, scale to fill and full screen.
GIFPaper provides a fun way of customizing iOS to jailbreak users. It brings a feature that is not supported by iOS by default and gives a new life to the homescreen and the lockscreen.
You can download this tweak for $1 from Cydia. It supports all iOS 7 powered devices.
Currently, this tweak is incompatible with the iPad.
Now, from version 1.2 it’s compatible
