In this guide, we show you how you can change your iPhone’s default aspect ratio from 4:3 to 16:9 permanently. This means the aspect ratio will stay at 16:9 whenever you launch the app and will not default back every time you quit the Camera app.
By shooting in 16:9 you can make your photos and videos more suitable for widescreen screen devices.
- Launch the Camera app and swipe up on the camera viewfinder.
- Tap on the aspect ratio button. (the one that has 4:3 written on it)
- Choose the 16:9 option to set this aspect ratio.
- Exit the Camera app and go to Settings.
- Tap on the Camera option and then on the next page tap on the Preserve option.
- On the next screen turn on the toggle for Creative Controls.
That’s it, now the Camera app will remember your Aspect Ratio and will always launch with a 16:9 Aspect Ratio selected. You can still change it to other aspect ratios by aces the creative controls by swiping up on the viewfinder area.
