Are you experiencing the issue where your Notes are not syncing between your iPhone, iPad, and Mac? This can be incredibly frustrating, as this issue can prevent you from accessing your notes on your Apple devices.
Thankfully, this problem is very easy to fix, and you can get the notes working in just a few minutes. Follow along with this guide to get your Notes syncing again.
Fix Notes Not Syncing
Check iCloud Notes Syncing
The first thing you should check is whether syncing is enabled on your devices. Here’s how to do this on your iPhone, iPad, and Mac.
Check on iPhone and iPad
- Open the Settings app.
- Tap on your name at the top.
- Tap on iCloud.
- Now tap on Notes.
- Make sure the toggle for Sync this iPhone is turned on.
Even if the toggle is already enabled, turn it off and back on. This will cause the connection between your device and iCloud to refresh.
Check on Mac
- Click on the Apple logo in the top-left corner.
- From the dropdown menu, click on System Settings.
- Click on your name on the side pane.
- Now click on iCloud.
- On the iCloud settings page, click on Notes.
- Finally, turn on the toggle for Sync this Mac.
If the Sync this Mac toggle is already enabled, then turn it off and back on. This will cause the connection between your device and iCloud to refresh.
Make sure all devices are on the same Apple Account
One thing that most people overlook when trying to fix the Notes not syncing issue is whether their devices are logged into the same Apple ID or not.
- On iPhone or iPad: Go to Settings and tap on your name at the top. Under your name, look for the Apple Account email address.
- On Mac: Open System Settings and click on your name from the side pane. Now look under your name.
Match the Apple Account email address on all of your devices. If one of the devices is logged into a different Apple Account, then your Notes will not sync with that device. In that case, sign out on that device and log in with your other Apple Account.
Make sure your notes are stored in the right folder
Notes app offers two separate places to store your notes. You can store your notes in the On my iPhone folder and iCloud folder. Only notes that are stored under the iCloud section are synced across iCloud devices.
You can check this by going to the main folders screen and clicking on On my iPhone or On my iPad and finding your note. To make a particular note sync, just move it to the iCloud section.
Similarly, you can go to the On my Mac section from the Notes app side pane and move the notes to the iCloud section.
Other Fixes that are known to work
- Check Internet Connection: One of the most common reasons why Notes don’t sync is because the internet is not working on one of the devices. Make sure internet is working on all devices. You can also switch to a different Wi-Fi network or cellular internet.
- Restart your devices: A simple fix that works most of the time. Simply restart your iPhone, iPad, and Mac and see if the notes start syncing again.
- Update software: Make sure your iPhone, iPad, and Mac are all running the latest versions of their operating systems by going to Settings -> General -> Software Update. After updating, try syncing notes again.
