In this iOS 26 preview, we are taking a look at the new Screen Capture settings that Apple has introduced in iOS 26. These new settings give users more control over how the screenshot feature works on their device.
Before we get into this new feature and show you the different options you get in the new Screen Capture section, keep in mind that this preview is based on an iPhone running iOS 26 developer beta 2. A lot can change when Apple finally releases iOS 26 to the public in the fall.
With that out of the way, let’s get right into the new feature.
Accessing Screen Capture Controls
To access the Screen Capture setting, you have to go to Settings, tap on General, and then tap on the new Screen Capture option.
On the next page, you will find various controls.
Full-Screen Previews
The first control, called Full-Screen Previews, lets you change how the screenshot feature works.
You can enable this toggle to directly view the full screenshot editing page instead of the screenshot previews that appear in the lower-left corner of the screen. This makes getting to your screenshots faster and more convenient.
Automatic Visual Look Up
Next up is the Automatic Visual Look Up toggle. When this is enabled, iOS will automatically identify and learn about objects and places in your screenshots instead of waiting for you to trigger this function. This makes using Visual Intelligence features more convenient.
CarPlay Screenshots
The CarPlay Screenshots toggle gives you control over whether CarPlay screenshots are captured. When enabled, every time you take a screenshot on your iPhone while connected to CarPlay, a screenshot of the CarPlay interface will also be saved automatically.
Format selection
Finally, the Format section lets you select between HDR and SDR options. When you select the HDR option, the screenshots and video recordings are captured in HEIF and HEVC HDR10 formats.
The SDR setting makes them more compatible by capturing screenshots in PNG format and screen recordings in HEVC format.
There you have it, folks, this was our look at the new Screen Capture Settings in iOS 26. These settings give users more control over how screenshot and screen recording features work on their iPhone. And they will be available to all users with iOS 26 or later.
