With iOS 26, Apple has introduced some big changes for the Lock Screen. Users now get access to a new stretchable typeface for the clock, a fresh spatial effect for wallpapers, and more.

In this article, we’re taking a detailed look at all the new features you can expect to see on the Lock Screen when iOS 26 is released for everyone this fall.

Before we dive in, it’s worth mentioning that this overview is based on iOS 26 Developer Beta 1, which I’m currently running on my iPhone. Things might change, and new features could be added by the time Apple releases the final version of iOS 26 to the public.

New Clock Typeface and Stretchable Design

The first and most noticeable change you’ll see on an iPhone running iOS 26 is the updated clock design. Apple has introduced a new font and look for the clock, which can now be stretched to cover nearly half of the screen. It’s a bold visual update, and honestly, it looks pretty cool.

Users can choose between a glass or solid look for the clock, depending on their preference. The clock also interacts with your wallpaper in a smart way. It subtly moves behind objects or people in the photo, giving off a nice 3D layering effect.

You can resize the clock using the grabber tool, making it larger or smaller to suit your taste. However, this stretched design is currently limited to the new font and isn’t available for older ones. Hopefully, Apple will expand this feature to more typefaces in future updates.

Lock Screen Widgets Repositioned

Another noticeable change is the new position of Lock Screen widgets. Apple has moved these widgets closer to the bottom of the screen, near the flashlight and camera shortcut buttons.

You can still add up to four small and two large widgets in this area. Personally, I think the new placement looks cleaner and is more accessible. What do you think? Let us know in the comments below.

New Spatial Effect for Wallpapers

iOS 26 also adds a new “Spatial Effect” feature that brings a 3D parallax effect to your wallpaper. With just a tap of a button, you can toggle this effect on or off.

What’s great about this feature is its flexibility. You can apply the spatial effect to virtually any photo, whether it’s a recent shot of your child or pet, or an older image stored in your library. Once enabled, the wallpaper responds to your device’s movements, creating a subtle yet impressive 3D experience.

Final Thoughts

So that was a quick look at the new Lock Screen features in iOS 26. From the new customizable clock to the spatial wallpapers and repositioned widgets, there’s a lot to look forward to when the update rolls out this fall.
