iPhone 15 Pro Rumors: USB-C, Curved Design, Smaller Camera Bump And More

Although there’s still a 7-month wait left for the announcement of iPhone 15 lineup, we have already started to see design leaks and rumors for the next generation of iPhone.

Over the past few days, we have seen several leaks related to the high-end iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max. If you have missed out on those leaks, then don’t worry as we are going to round them all up here.

Transition to Lightning Port To USB-C

One of the biggest changes that have allegedly been revealed regarding the upcoming iPhone 15 Pro device is that it will finally get rid of the aging Lightning Port in favor of the USB-C.

With this Lightning to USB-C transition, Apple will finally bring a USB-C port to its flagship product after replacing the Lightning port from all iPad models last year.

This is a huge change as it will make the life of iPhone users much easier as USB-C accessories will work across iPhones and iPads, and with devices from other manufacturers.

Curved edges on iPhone 15 Pro

iPhone 14 Pro just like iPhone’s previous two generations features sharp and box-like edges. According to leaked CADs this is going to change with iPhone 15 Pro as Apple will introduce a design that will have curved edges.

The said curved edges will be found on the glass as well as on the metal frame. According to 9to5Mac, which has published the CADs the glass curves slightly around the edges and transitions into the frame.

The frame of the device is also more curved than previous generations and looks similar to the curved design o the new MacBook Pros. The curved design of the new iPhone will make it easier for users to hold the device more comfortably.

What about the camera bump of iPhone 15 Pro?

While historically Apple has been increasing the size and depth of the rear camera bump this year it looks like the company will reduce the size of the camera bump on iPhone 15 Pro Max.

According to 9to5Mac’s CADs the iPhone 15 Pro will have a thicker camera bump on the back, which according to the site indicates the camera system has been upgraded with new lenses and sensors. This would be in line with what Apple has been doing for past many years as we have seen the size of the lenses and the bump increase while also improving the camera quality.

Another leak from Twitter user @UniverseIce claims that iPhone 15 Pro Max (or iPhone 15 Ultra) will have a smaller camera bump compared to iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max. While this will be a surprising development, according to rumors this has been made possible by the introduction of a new periscope lens exclusively on iPhone 15 Pro Max, which will allow Apple to reduce the size of the camera bump.

With this reduction iPhone 15 Pro Max’s camera bump will be 3.6mm compared to 4.18mm of iPhone 14 Pro Max – a 0.59mm reduction.

Other design changes

The CADs reveal that iPhone 15 Pro will come with capacitive volume buttons instead of the physical buttons found on current models. The device is also said to feature thinner bezels around the screen.

The mute button could also see a redesign and feature a smaller ad rounder shape. This will make it look quite similar to the volume buttons.
