Apple released the 13-inch MacBook Pro with M1 chip back in November 2020. This was one of the first devices to feature Apple Silicone, which since then has expanded to more products including the 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pros.
As it has been over a year since Apple released the 13-inch MacBook Pro with M1 Chip, it is time for a refresh. Sources that includes Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman are claiming that Apple will be releasing a refreshed model of 13-inch MacBook Pro, which will sell alongside 14 and 16-inch models.
The 13-inch MacBook Pro is expected to feature M2 chip and be available as a more affordable ‘Pro’ machine since the 14-inch model with new design and M1 Pro chip starts at $1,999.
Compared to 14-inch model the current 13-inch M1 Chip equipped MacBook Pro only costs $1,299, a price it is expected to retain with the refreshed model.
Changes in 13-inch MacBook Pro With M2 Chip
So what are the changes that we should expect from the new 2022 13-inch MacBook Pro? Let’s find out.
When it comes to the design the new 13-inch MacBook Pro will most likely feature the same design as the current model. This includes the Touch Bar and wider bezels around the display.
Specs wise this machine is going to see some major improvements that includes the addition of M2 Chip with 8-core CPU and 8-core GPU, which will be replacing the current M1 chip.
Apple may or may not add the M1 Pro chip to the MacBook Pro, which would increase the GPU cores to 14-core however this seems unlikely, as it would want professionals who require more horsepower to get the more expensive 14-inch model with M1 Pro processor.
The new 13-inch MacBook Pro could also feature a 1080p FaceTime HD camera, which will be a significant upgrade over the 720p FaceTime HD camera found on the current model.
The current 13-inch MacBook Pro offers 8GB Memory on the base model and 16GB upgrade option. In the new model Apple could also make 16GB the standard option with an option to upgrade to 32GB.
Similarly base storage could increase to 512GB on the base model with an option to upgrade up to 4TB. A big jump from current model’s 256GB base storage.
Apart from this all other specs and features are expected to remain the same with the device featuring a 13.3-inch LED-backlit display with 2560 x 1600 pixels, two thunderbolt/USB 4 ports and more.
When will Apple release refreshed 2022 13-inch MacBook Pro?
Apple is reportedly holding a media event in March on April according to Mark Gurman. The company is going to use this event to announce multiple products that includes the 13-inch MacBook Pro with M2 Chip, iPhone SE with 5G, 27-inch iMac with M2 Chip, upgraded high-end Mac mini with M1 Pro chip and perhaps more.
