Apple Releases iOS 16.2 and iPadOS 16.2 Betas To Developers

One day after releasing iOS 16.1 update to public, Apple has today seeded iOS 16.2 and iPadOS 16.2 betas to developers. Those developers who are registered with Apple’s developer program can now download iOS 16.2 beta on their test devices.

Along side iOS 16.2 and iPadOS 16.2 developer betas Apple has also released macOS Ventura 13.1 and watchOS 9.2 developer betas. These can also be downloaded from the developer center.

The build number for iOS 16.2 beta 1 and iPadOS 16.2 beta 1 is 20C5032e.

iPadOS 16.2, which is going to be the second major iPadOS 16 release after yesterday’s release of iPadOS 16.1 includes a number of noticeable changes.

The most notable change seen in iPadOS 16.2 is the introduction of Freeform app, which was first announced at WWDC 2022.

The new Freeform app, which will be available to all with the public release of iPadOS 16.2 sometime next month is a collaboration based canvas app where users can work on a single canvas and make contributions to it including adding content and making edits. All changes made to the canvas are updated for all users in real-time.

In addition to iPads Freeform app will also be available on the Mac. In fact macOS Ventura 13.1 developer beta that is also released today also includes Freeform’s Mac version.

Another noticeable change that has been found in iPadOS 16.2 beta is the return of support for external displays on iPads that support the Stage Manager feature. Apple had removed the support for external monitors in iPadOS 16.1 public release, and has re-added the functionality in today’s beta release giving hope to users that this feature will be back in iPadOS 16.2.
