Apple has just released iOS 16.1 software update and it is now available for download. iOS 16.1 is a major iOS release for iPhones and is recommended to all users. The build number for today’s release is 20B82, which is different from iOS 16.1 RC.
iOS 16.1 has been in beta testing phase for over a month now and today Apple has released the software update update throughly testing it with developers and public beta testers.
You can now head over to Settings -> General -> Software Update in order to download iOS 16.1 on iPhone over-the-air.

What’s new in iOS 16.1
As we have mentioned earlier iOS 16.1 is a big release. In fact it is the biggest release of iOS 16 since the launch of iOS 16.0 last month.
With iOS 16.1 Apple has brought Live Activities feature for users and Live Activities API for developers, who can now add support for Live Activities to their apps. Live Activities feature will allow different types of apps to display information on the lock screen. For example sports apps can display scores in a live updating lock screen banners while a ride hailing app can display how far user’s booked ride is. The Live Activities banner refreshes information in real-time.
With iOS 16.1 Apple is finally bringing iCloud Shared Photo Library feature to iPhones. This feature will allow users to invite up to 5 family and friends to an iCloud Shared Photo Library. Users can then store photos and videos in this dedicated shared library, which is also accessible to other participants. Other members can also add and share their pictures in this library.
Clear Energy Charging feature, which will allow iPhone users to automatically charge their iPhone when energy with low carbon footprint is available in their area at night has also been added in this release.
Other features that iOS 16.1 is bringing to iPhones include ability for users to delete Apple Wallet app, support for Matter and a battery percentage icon that dynamically fills or gets empty based on the amount of charge that is remaining on the device.
