Along with releasing iOS 17 Release Candidate, Apple has also released the iOS 16.7 Release Candidate for testing. The iOS 16.7 RC has been released for devices that are not getting the iOS 17 update.
Update: Apple has now released iOS 16.7 and iPadOS 16.7 to the public.
If you are a developer interested in beta testing or someone who has an iPhone or iPad that is not compatible with iOS 17, and wants to get access to iOS 16.7 earlier, then you can download it on your devices right now.
As iOS 16.7 is released as a Release Candidate or RC, if no bugs are detected, then today’s build that carries the build number 20H18 will be released to the public on September 18 along with iOS 17.
No new features or major changes are expected in iOS 16.7, as it is supposed to be a minor update with bug fixes and improvements.
iOS 16.7 and iPadOS 17 RC have been released for the following devices.
iPhones
- iPhone X
- iPhone 8 Plus
- iPhone 8
iPads
- 12.9-in. iPad Pro (1st generation)
- 9.7-in. iPad Pro (1st generation)
- iPad (5th generation)
Darn I was hoping to get the IOS 16.7 update when it come out on Monday 9/18 for my iphone 11. I will definitely not be going to the new IOS 17 update untill either August or even September of 2024. Not gonna make the same mistake that I did with IOS 16. I thought I was good to update to IOS 16 (16.2) in January 2023 because alot of peoples just got new apple device for christmas with IOS 16 already installed so then I thought it was stable but I guess was wrong and have nothing but problem until IOS 16.5 came out on May 18, 2023 then everything been running smooth since then. As for my iPad 9.7 I going to keep that one on IOS 15.7.2 for as long as I can untill it no longer supported for app in the app store or app update and force me to update to whenever the current IOS 16 update it at that time
As the other commenter has pointed out, Apple could still release iOS 16.7 for all devices, although right now it is only offering IPSW files for the devices listed in the article. I suggest that you install iOS 16.6.1 on your device, so you can stay on iOS 16 even if iOS 16.7 is not released for your iPhone 11.
Good
As of now, Apple seems to have stopped signing iOS 16.6..1 (at least I get an error that the firmware file is corrupt when trying to restore with it).
So hoping that Apple still releases ipsw files for other devices. Don’t update to iPadOS 17 if you haven’t! They took away video scrubbing by swiping somewhere on a full screen video player. This was the single best iOS video player feature of the last decade! Apple, WHAT ARE YOU DOING???
