Apple To Launch iPadOS 16 A Month After iOS 16’s Release

Apple is expected to hold its iPhone 14 event on September 7. In line with the expected event date Apple’s software development team has finished work on the official iOS 16.0 version this past week.

The report comes from Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman who says Apple will only be releasing iOS 16.0 and watchOS 9.0 after the iPhone event.

macOS Ventura and iPadOS upgrades will be released in October. In the past Apple has released new macOS a month after the release of a major iOS release while iPadOS has always launched on the same day as iOS. However this year for the first time ever iPadOS 16 will also be launching with a delay of around 1-month.

The iOS 16.0 update, which Apple engineers finished work on this past week, is due to launch in September alongside watchOS 9. Those updates will correspond with the new hardware. The macOS Ventura and iPadOS upgrades, on the other hand, are now scheduled for October (after Stage Manager-related delays to the iPad software) to match the new hardware lineup.

Now the launch of iPadOS 16.0 will coincide with Apple’s October event where it is expected to announce new iPad models.

So what will Apple launch at its October event? Well according to Gurman we can expect the launch of a revamped iPad Pro that will be powered by an M2 processor. A redesigned budget iPad is also on the cards that will come with an A14 chip, iPad Air like flat edged design, USB-C port while retaining a Touch ID home button.

The October event will also bring new M2 chip powered Mac mini, new MacBook Pro and Mac Pro models.
