As we reported in our earlier article unc0ver jailbreak tool has been updated to take advantage of the ‘Sock Puppet’ exploit and with that it now supports iOS 12.2 or earlier. In the same article we mentioned that Electra Team, which is behind the Chimera jailbreak tool is also testing iOS 12.2 support. Now Electra Team has delivered on their promise, as they have now released Chimera v1.2.0 to public.
With Chimera v1.2.0 the jailbreak tool has also gained support for iOS 12.1.3, iOS 12.1.4 and iOS 12.2. While this is an exciting news for fans of Chimera and Sileo package manager, it is important to note here that just like unc0ver, Chimera’s iOS 12.2 support is limited to pre-A12 devices, so if you have an iPhone XS, XS Max or XR you cannot use this tool to jailbreak your device. Although it is encouraging that Electra Team has advised users to stay on iOS 12.2 or lower as they may add support for these iOS versions in a future update.
Also, similar to unc0ver, Chimera for iOS 12.2 also does not feature support for A7 and A8 chip devices also known as ‘4K devices’ because the Sock Puppet exploit is broken on these particular iOS devices. However in its current form Chimera supports iOS 12.1.2 and earlier on all devices including those with A12 chip and 4K devices.
Chimera 1.2.0 is now available on https://t.co/Us16P1PUl6, adding support for A9 – A11 devices on iOS 12.1.3 – 12.2
All devices on 12.0 – 12.1.2 are supported
