Google’s Gmail app is one of the best email clients for iOS, however the fact that it does not support non-Google email addresses such as Hotmail, Yahoo! and others has been a major downside, and something that discourages many from using it. Now it seems like Google is finally fixing the biggest annoyance with Gmail for iOS, by adding support for third-party email accounts.
Google is now allowing users to sign up for the Gmail beta that offers access to third-party email accounts from the app. Naturally after the bugs have been fixed the changes will be rolled out for all users.
The Gmail for iOS version that supports non-Gmail email addresses needs at least iOS 10 to work. If you are running a modern iOS version and are interested in trying out the upcoming Gmail update today, then you can sign up to the beta program here. You will also need to have at least one Gmail account. If accepted you will receive instructions on how to download it through the TestFlight program.
