Right after releasing iOS 11 and other major software updates for everyone, Apple has also released a treat for its developer community. The company has officially released Swift 4.0 as detailed on company’s official Swift blog.
Swift 4 builds on the strengths of Swift 3 and is designed to deliver ‘greater robustness and stability’, notes Apple in the blogpost. Swift 4 provides source code compatibility with Swift 3, adds new features like archival and serialization, and makes improvements to the Swift standard library.
The language components that have been updated in this release include String, Collection as well as Archival and Serialization. The update also brings new compatibility modes and more.
Swift 4.0 ships with Xcode 9, so when you update to the latest available version of Xcode you will find the new version of the language built right into it.
Mac users can download Xcode 9 along with Swift 4.0 here.
