One of the Apple devices that has a huge and untapped potential of being customized is an Apple Watch. Apart from the obvious things like third-party Watch faces there’s plenty of things that we would like to change about the wearable device. Now it looks like we might be closer to an Apple Watch jailbreak than ever before as a tool called OverCl0ck has been released for developers.
The tool that is still in early prototype and available on Github has been developed by developer sparkey. The tool currently supports watchOS 3 and is based on V0rtex kernel exploit. The developer isn’t sure which models of Apple Watch are supported by his tool. Since in its current form OverCl0ck only supports watchOS 3, Apple Watch Series 3 is confirmed not to be included in the compatibility list.
I just posted an early prototype of OverCl0ck to GitHub. I've also modified @tihmstar's offsetfinder to work with saved watchOS kernels (still needs work).
Don't expect to much of this too quickly.
Contributions are very welcome. https://t.co/vY95k2O3hn— sparkey (@iBSparkes) January 26, 2018
OverCl0ck is currently in early prototype and is not meant for general users. However if you are developer who is interested in trying this new jailbreak out and explore the possibility of developing tweaks for the Apple Watch then it is available on GitHub for download.
Developer sparkey has also talked about the possibility of releasing a Cydia-like package manager that will allow users to download tweaks on their Apple Watch if the jailbreak gets popular enough support from users.
